Hotel chefs sample Hokkaido food (May 28, 2008)

The Hokkaido Government held a taste-testing party in Sapporo on May 27 featuring food made from Hokkaido ingredients that will be offered to world leaders at the Hokkaido Toyako Summit. Around 50 master chefs from famous Hokkaido hotels tasted some 100 select items, including beef, seafood and dairy products.

The event was held in the hope that the chefs would be impressed by the quality of the ingredients and promote them to the world through their cooking. Some chefs seemed to be unable to wait for the chance to show their skills, and began cooking using the fixtures present at the party.

Katsuhiro Nakamura, the executive chef of the Windsor Hotel Toya Resort & Spa - the main venue of the Summit - expressed his enthusiasm by commenting that a chef's job is to bring out the maximum flavor of the ingredients.
