Foreign Ministers Announced as Summit Prepares for Participation of 23 Countries (March 18, 2008)

At a post-cabinet-meeting press conference on the 18th, Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura officially announced the countries that will take part in the Outreach Meetings at the Hokkaido Toyako Summit in July. It was confirmed that at a total of 23 countries, including the G8 Summit members, will take part in discussions - the largest number to date.

The "African Development" meeting to be held on the opening day on July 7th will be attended by the eight leaders from Algeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania, as well as the President of the African Union (AU).

The eight leaders from Australia, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Korea and South Africa have been invited to attend the "Climate Change" meeting scheduled for the final day on July 9th. Exchanges of opinions will be held with the G8 leaders at both meetings.
