Leaflets produced by the Organizing Committee of the Indigenous Peoples Summit

The Organizing Committee of the Indigenous Peoples Summit in Ainu Mosir 2008, which provides a platform for the Ainu and indigenous peoples around the world, has produced leaflets containing the outline and schedule of the indigenous peoples summit schedule to coincide with the Hokkaido Toyako Summit.

Twenty thousand copies of the A4-sized leaflets have been produced, and will be distributed via citizens groups both within and outside Hokkaido. With the aim of increasing public understanding and interest, the Organizing Committee held a press conference in the Hokkaido government offices on the 25th, in which it spoke about wanting to the summit to "be the catalyst for everyone to start talking about indigenous peoples and the environment."

The indigenous peoples summit will be held in the town of Biratori in Hidaka Subprefecture, and the city of Sapporo, between the 1st and 4th of July. The voices of indigenous peoples and minorities from both home and abroad will be compiled as a declaration and submitted to the countries participating in the Toyako Summit.

The Organizing Committee is currently in search of volunteer staff or contributions. For details, please phone the Organizing Committee secretariat on 090-9431-3847 or visit the website at http://www.ainumosir2008.com/
